Top ranked Metros (14-9) recorded its ninth loss in Santo Domingo on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by fourth ranked Leones (12-10) 104-93. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Metros. Leones dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Metros' 42. Leones looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was American swingman Trahson Burrell (201-1992, college: Memphis) who scored 25 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. point guard Jaison Valdez (188-1995) chipped in 20 points, 12 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was Brandone Francis (194-1994, college: Texas Tech) who recorded 23 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Leones maintains fourth place with 12-10 record. Metros at the other side still keep top position with nine games lost. Leones are looking forward to face higher ranked Titanes (#3) in San Cristobal in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Metros will play at home against the league's second-placed Indios and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in La Romana was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Titanes (13-10) played at the court of 6th ranked Caneros (8-14). Titanes managed to secure a 7-point victory 93-86. It was a good game for Luis Montero (203-1993, college: South Plains) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. Richard Bautista contributed with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners. American-Puerto Rican center Antonio Gordon (206-2001, college: Oklah.Christian) answered with 24 points and 5 rebounds for Caneros. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion maintains third place with 13-10 record behind leader Metros. Caneros lost fourth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 14 games lost. Titanes will play against Leones (#4) in Santo Domingo in the next round. Caneros will play on the road against Marineros in Puerto Plata and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
In the last game of round 9 Marineros were defeated by Indios in San Francisco 101-93.
The best stats of 9th round was 20 points and 16 rebounds by Luismal Ferreiras of Indios.
